Nothing seems like it is: “double sens” follows irritating impressions of the senses and goes behind the core of the own physical presence. The body is taken as a membrane mediating between its surface and our environment and in the same way reveals what is hidden under its skin. “double sens” refers to a movement between giving oneself to the world and retiring from the world. It is a humorous as well as poetical portrait which goes far beyond the visible image and elucidates what really moves us underneath the visible surface.

Press Reviews

... Toula Limnaios once again enchants us with a somnambular-magical piece, her best in a long time
Berliner Zeitung, Feuilleton, Michaela Schlagenwerth, 7th December 2004.

Of the seven pieces premieres during dance made in berlin, "double sens" was most filled with motion and the only piece that gave priority to the beauty of movement and the modulation of energy. Sometimes, the dancers appeared to be no more than dark silhouettes, slowly losing their shape, as if the ink with which the figures were drawn was dripping away. A strong power of attraction draws the scenes together. “double sens“ was the only piece, in which the movements were given meaning of their own accord.

...how wonderful to be able to rehearse in one’s own theatre! Up one more flight of stairs there’s another 120 m2 rehearsal space for guests such as the homeless Berliner company Rubato: Limnaios and Rubato will each be showing a premiere on the 25th November. Sure, having a hall is a luxury and costs more that the city’s funding covers. But instead there’s a miracle: now that Limnaios is working in a settled space, she’s being taken notice of. The rule of thumb being: only she, who has something to show, will be seen. It was no different for Sasha Waltz.
.Toula Limnaios is the poet of dance. And at the same time, a woman of action. Berlin is indebted to the choreographer for its newest dance venue: the “HALLE“.

Tagesspiegel, Sandra Luzina, November 2004.

The atmosphere in the historically listed hall is fantastic. A high wooden ceiling over a stage, which, just like the audience seating rising above it, is softly portioned off with transparent curtains. Curtains that strengthen the nebular impression of the milky white light and let the brick walls ...disappear into an almost unperceivable distance. These curtains are also a kind of membrane through which the four dancers from cie. toula limnaios intrude into the space and disappear again. Sometimes their movements are beyond time ... each is on his own with his body, shortly later the one becomes part of the other, becomes moved by the other.
It suits the dreamy, sometimes whirring, at times dull wafting sounds of Ralf R. Ollertz. The composer is surely right, when he says that it’s not such much about the venue as about the quality of the dancing. But this space intensives that which takes place within it, sharpens the striking quality of ideas.
